Adderall® was brought to market in the mid-1990s by Richwood Pharmaceuticals, a company founded in 1990 by healthcare entrepreneur Roger Griggs. Under Mr. Griggs' leadership as President and CEO, Richwood developed the Adderall brand and secured FDA approval for the product in 1996. Adderall went on to become one of the most widely prescribed medications for ADHD in the United States.
In 1997, Richwood Pharmaceuticals was acquired by Shire Pharmaceuticals Group. Following the acquisition, Mr. Griggs went on to found several other pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, including Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals, PediaMed Pharmaceuticals, and Union Springs Healthcare.
